Three-peat for Taylor
By BRAD GREENSHIELDS
YESTERDAY was a good frolic in the water for 17-year-old Taylor Hardy when he took out his third successive Coffs Coast Ocean Swim.
Returning from a shoulder reconstruction, the boy who grew up in Coffs Harbour before moving to the Gold Coast five years ago easily won over the 2000m distance, with a gap of nearly two and a half minutes to runner-up Elliot Diebold.
In near-perfect conditions, Hardy completed his hat-trick of victories and held such a comfortable lead that at one stage he rounded a marker doing backstroke so he could get an inkling at how far behind him Diebold was.
The fact was he would've needed an eye test to see him, so large was the gap.
"It was a good swim today (Sunday) as the conditions were really good," the now Burleigh resident said.
"It was pretty easy compared to the first year that I was here."
This year Hardy went into the race a little underdone but no-one would ever have guessed it.
"I've only just started to come back after the shoulder reconstruction and I'm trying to get back into it," he said.
Hardy always has the Coffs Coast Ocean Swim marked on his calendar as it gives him a chance to return home and catch up with friends.
With a chance of a fourth victory in a row next year, he assures us that he'll be coming home again.
