Swell time

By BRAD GREENSHIELDS

THE Billabong Pro Junior is the biggest ever surf event to hit Coffs Harbour and the much loved break at Macauleys turned on perfect conditions yesterday for the opening day of competition.

Surfers drawn in the early heats yesterday enjoyed fantastic waves with a solid two metre peak with perfect peeling lefts the order of the day.

Vertical snaps in the pocket seemed to be the manoeuvre of choice for most competitors as they strived to qualify for the second round. Most of the talented group of local surfers entered in this event enjoyed a day off yesterday thanks to being seeded and their heats will get underway this morning.
