Sisters prove hard to catch

A TOUGH fortnight on the road travelling up and down the Queensland coast has paid off for the Bates family.
Motocross sisters Ashlea and Elisha have walked away with the trophies in their respective age groups for finishing first overall after the three round series in Mackay, Mareebra and Coolum.
As the older sister, 15-year-old Ashlea led the way, wowing motocross enthusiasts with her performances in the state titles.
Not only did she win her 15-years female class but also put a few noses out of joint when she also collected the overall title in the B Grade boys division.
"I was very surprised with how I went against the boys," she said.
"I think there were a couple of boys who weren't happy that I won."
To prove how well the Christian Community student went, her lap times at the last round were 11 seconds faster than the quickest of the senior girls which is a good sign for when Ashlea is due to progress to the senior ranks in August.
Her times were only 25 seconds slower than the fastest senior pro at the series.
Not to be outdone, eight-year-old Elisha also collected a state title finishing first overall in the 65cc 7-9 year-old division.
Young Elisha won the first round at Mackay then stayed at the top of her class with runner-up finishes in the remaining two rounds.
Both admitted that by the end of the long trek with Mum Joanne at the wheel they were happy to be home but ecstatic at the results they achieved.
