Setback for cricketer

JANUARY was a pretty eventful month for Bellingen cricketer Jordan Moran.

The talented wicketkeeper-batsman started the New Year with a flurry of runs, scoring a century against Park Beach Bowling Club Colts and then 59 for a Coffs Harbour against the touring Canterbury (NZ) Colts side. He then travelled to Lismore to represent Northern NSW Emus against the touring Kiwis.

But just like the old saying goes, it was all too good to be true.

Less than a week after his ton against Nana Glen, Moran's right wrist was in plaster after being struck while opening for the Emus.

"The deck was a bit wet and it was only the second ball I faced, it was a bouncer and I was just too slow on it," Moran said.

"It hurt a fair bit, but I didn't think I had broken it.

"I batted on and for another eight overs before the rain came then I had an x-ray.

"I was pretty annoyed because I had been batting pretty well and I didn't want to miss any cricket."

Moran has been selected in the Australian Under-20 indoor cricket side which will travel to South Africa in March, but he said the break would not jeopardise his place in that side.

He was also hoping to make a return to the field as early as this weekend.

"The cast was taken off last Thursday so hopefully I will be able to play this weekend, although I probably won't be able to keep," he said.

He is hoping his purple patch of form won't have worn off by the time he returns to the crease.

"I'm sure I will be a bit scratchy in the first ten overs and I might be a bit hesitant to play a big shot, but I should be right."
