Semi-finals start Saturday

THE final round of the Saturday Morning Junior Tennis Competition was played last weekend.

All players are reminded that every player in each team plays in both the semi-finals and finals which start this Saturday.

Last weekend both matches in Division 1 were quite close.

Stephanie Purton won all three of her sets to help her team to a 24-16 win. Mat Thamm was the difference in the other match winning one of his singles 6-2 and combining with Matthew Allen to win the doubles 5-3. Their team ended up winning 22-18.

Chris Waites and Jason Robson had a very good 30-10 win in Division 2. Chris went very well to win all three of his sets comfortably.

Callum Hunter was the stand out in the other match winning his two singles 7-1 and combining with Drew Hayman to win the doubles 6-2 for a 26-14 win to the Nalbandian team.

Jim Browning has dominated Division 3 all competition and Saturday was no exception.

He won all his three sets including an 8-0 singles win. The match between Dunlop and Head was a much closer affair. Alex Bailie did very well winning both his singles 6-2 and 5-3. These games proved impossible for the other team to catch resulting in a 22-18 win.

In Division 4, Jake Bailey has been the stand out all term.

He will definitely be going to a higher division next competition. He won his singles 7-1 and 6-2 which helped his team to a convincing win. Chelsea Wittleton and Lilli Smyth played good consistent tennis to win all their sets.

Four of them were hard fought 5-3 results so the match wasn't a walkover by any means. Chelsea and Lilli won 26-14.

Both matches in Division 5 were also close. Jessica Downey's team were down by four games with her singles to go.

She showed great fighting qualities to win it 7-1 and give her team a two game win.

Toby Newell won his two singles 6-2 for the Newcombe team but this was not enough for them to score a win. Natalie Derrick and Jessica Murray both won a singles 7-1 to help their team to a 23-17 win.

Good luck to all players competing in the semi-finals this Saturday. Remember all players from every team play this Saturday.
