Sayer eyes race record
ENTRIES have started arriving for this year's Poolside Water World Great Ocean Run from Red Rock to Coffs Harbour Jetty along the beaches, over the headlands and across numerous creeks.
The event gets under way at 7am on Sunday, March 20.
First entry to be received was from the Central Coast's Stephen Sayer, a former winner who indicated that he will have a crack at the race record set by Jim Bennington at three hours, 18 minutes.
There is every indication that his will not be a lonely quest as the second entry to come in was from another former winner Michael Smart from Invergowrie while one of last year's equal first placegetters, Andrew Thompson declared his intentions as well.
None of those runners under-rate Bennington's chances of upsetting their plans especially if the going proves to be tough for the 45 kilometres journey.
Another experienced Water World runner Bob Beer will not be far away from the pointy end, either.
Beer is one of the group from the Tweed Runners who make a pilgrimage south each year for this event.
Entry forms are available from the Poolside Water World Shop in Orlando Street or by contacting Steel Beveridge on 6656 2735 during the week prior to the race.
