Sawtell wins State medals

By GREG WHITE

SAWTELL Physical Culture Club took 26 competitors to Sydney Town Hall for the State titles and eventually swept the board of medals.

After preliminary events, 15 girls progressed to grand finals with eight receiving awards.

Proving good things come from constant effort, Emily Vignes won her first-ever medal, taking first place in the 15 and 16 years group.

"Emily has represented the club numerous times," spokesperson Jo Logan said.

"She was overjoyed with her win at the contest."

Gemma Luciani also took first placing in the 10 years age group.

"This is the seventh consecutive time Gemma has competed in a grand final," Logan said.

"Her record now stands at two wins and she's been runner-up on five occasions."

Logan said 2006 has been the best-ever year for the club.

"We're elated with the performances," she said.

All the girls will break from routines over the festive season with classes resuming in February.
