Sad end for runaway Chevrolet

POLICE feared the worst when they were called to an overturned car leaking fuel on the highway at Sapphire yesterday. But when they arrived just after 11.30am, they discovered no-one was in the vehicle, and it wasn't on the road. They found out that, somehow, the Chevrolet classic had rolled 20 metres down a frontyard, crashed through a wire fence, toppled eight metres over an embankment and landed on its roof by the side of the highway. Thankfully, no-one was hurt. Salvage crews planned to use a crane to haul the car out of the ditch and return it to its anxious owner, a local 83-year-old. Police inquiries continue.
