Round of applause for mystery winner

By KAT MULLARD

MOST of us have heard of the famous zen koan, the sound of one hand clapping, but now Coffs Harbour has come up with it's own version, the sound of two banana leaves rubbing.

So what is the all this rustle about noisy banana leaves, I hear you ask?

It was the long-awaited answer to local radio station 2SC's Secret Sound competition, finally unveiled yesterday after almost two years of unsuccessful attempts by radio listeners.

The mystery of this fruity farce was peeled away by Coffs Harbour resident Mary Whitlock. She was rewarded with an impressive $4740 in prize money for her acute sense of auditory awareness.

If you tuned into Hendo's breaky show and happened to catch the commotion, you may have been suprised at this unusual outcome ? the sound of two banana leaves rubbing sounded somewhat more like a loud roar ending in a dull thud than the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze.
