Rooney wins Easter Classic

JASON Rooney was so rattled by his poor finish in the Coffs Harbour Golf Club championship he turned his back on play for a month.

Then with the Coffs Harbour Catholic Club Easter Classic fast approaching and the golf bug biting, he took a week off work to freshen up his game.

The move paid off with Rooney winning the men's title on the weekend with 85 points, four points clear of runner-up Dylan Stollery.

"Somedays you're stale while on others, everything you touch turns to gold," Rooney said of his comeback to competition.

"Having a bit of time off helped get the cobwebs out of the system."

The CCC Easter Classic was Rooney's biggest win at the club by far.

"I've won a couple of Saturday comps a fair way back but nothing like this," he said.

Rooney's card 'off the stick' was a one over par 71 on Saturday with a four over 75 the following day, for his total of 85 points.

In superb weather conditions, 527 games were played to sort out the placings with 28 clubs represented.
