Relay team celebrates gold

TOORMINA High School is celebrating the gold medal-winning efforts of their 14 year girls relay squad at the CHS athletics carnival held at Homebush Olympic Stadium.

After finishing runners-up to Hills Sports High in 2006, the Toormina girls turned the result around and relegated their great rivals to the silver medal in a winning time of 51.46 seconds.

Cassie Maddocks, Sharon McGrady and Emma Ross remained in the team from last year with Georgina Kokaev the new face. ""We were so pleased to beat them after going down last time,"" Emma said.

""I don't know if they came back with a different squad but we did our own thing and didn't worry about them.""

Along with the relay victory, the school provided two individual medallists among a full team making a host of finals.

Siobahn Deam finished third in the 13 years 800 metre event while Brianne McCabe picked up the bronze medal in the 16 years 100 metre hurdles.

Despite finishing fourth in the 100 and 200 metre finals, Cassie's times have already qualified her for the All Schools and National carnivals at Homebush next month.

Brianne, Siobahn and Georgina will also compete at All Schools.
