Red Rooster is crowing over award
WHAT makes Coffs Harbour such a franchise mecca?
Red Rooster is the latest in a line of six Coffs Harbour franchise businesses to win an award.
Red Rooster Coffs Harbour two-store franchisee Matthew Culgan has been awarded the Best Franchise Newcomer award for the 2006 financial year at the recent Red Rooster national conference.
Mr Culgan joins Gloria Jean's Coffee, Ella Bache, SSS Barbecue Barns, Athletes Foot, Andersens Carpets and Muffin Break, on the list of Coffs Coast franchises business which have won awards.
Muffin Break last month won an award for coffee sales growth.
Kelly and Graeme McCormack, the franchise own- ers of the two Gloria Jean's Coffees outlets in Coffs Harbour, this year were awarded as overall best Gloria Jeans store in the world.
Mrs McCormack said yesterday she thought Coffs Harbour people were more accepting and supportive of franchise operations than residents of other centres, who often saw franchises as a threat to other local businesses.
"They recognise franchises as locally-owned businesses which employ local people and which provide a quality of service and expertise to the region, so people see it as a a good thing," she said.
Mr Culgan said it might be the combination of lifestyle, ownership, good workers and good business practices.
