Rare ribbons the horse highlight

CONSIDERING there were 600 other young equestrians were all vying for a prized few ribbons available at the recent North-West Equestrian Expo in Coonabarabran, the performances of riders from the Coffs Harbour region during this annual high school event were outstanding.

The Bishop Druitt College team that consisted of Josie and Sydnee Doolan and Caitlin Hockey was very successful overall.

The Doolans and Bowraville High's Callum Hockey covered themselves in glory, winning a hotly contested B Grade polocrosse tournament.

An added honour for the polocrosse team was the naming of Sydnee Doolan as the best girl player for the competition.

Hockey received a well-deserved second place in the multi phased 'showmans challenge' and went on to win champion hack later on in the carnival.

With riders coming from other schools such as such as Bellingen, Grafton, Dorrigo and Macksville, the students in the Coffs Harbour and District team impressed many with the maturity that they showed.
