Previous winners strike again

TWO athletes who have given longtime support to annual running events at Sawtell on New Year's Day were rewarded with wins on Saturday.

Geoffrey Bruce who has been competing in the Sawtell fun run while on holidays from Canberra was having his 25th start in the race while chalking up another win, two seconds better than his previous best time beating Michael Harrison and Rowan Chandler.

Winner of the open women's division was Melissa Bulloch from Isabel Garrett and Kiona Moseley.

Lenny Duroux was competing in his 14th Sawtell Gift and claimed another title beating Greg Moon in the final while Phil Cook finished third.

Another highlight was the win of 13-year-old Boambee runner Brianne McCable who took out the Ladies Bracelet after earlier finishing second in the under-13 girls age group.

Angus Campbell showed his versatility by finishing second in the under-13 sprint before he won his age group in the fun run.

Age shall not weary them was the catch cry for Carole Coulter and Tom Holbut who were successful in the over 60 age groups.

Michael Tonks entered while on his garbage run then returned to win the over 35 men's age group.
