Power supply pole will be erected within weeks

A POWER supply pole which has been holding up the connection of electricity to The Lakes subdivision at North Boambee will be erected by October 14 at the latest, said a consultant for the developers.

Clarence Consultants director Michael Brennan said 'what might seem a simple exercise of sticking a pole in the ground' had been delayed because there was 'a spaghetti of services' in the area in- cluding a private water main no one had known about, and also by the difficulty of co-ordinating different authorities.

The pole, which will be located on council land, will connect power from the Country Energy grid to the Astoria Developments subdivision, where Mr Brennan said all the electrical work had already been done by private Gold Coast-based electrical contractors Powerco.

But he said the electrical work on the pole would be carried out by Country Energy, because this would be live line work and they were the only people who had the necessary special expertise. Mr Brennan said live line work avoided having to cut off power to other users, especially the Drive In Estate industrial area.

Several builders are already constructing homes in the new estate, which went on the market last November.
