Porpoise promoter gets in the spirit

JENNY Faynes has been synonymous with promoting Coffs Harbour from the Jetty for more than 12 years ? and she's not about to stop now.
The promotions manager for the Pet Porpoise Pool for the last two-and-a-half years, and previously marketing manager for community radio station CHY for more than 10 years, the former Sydney entertainment promoter starts work on Monday as the new face of the whale watching and cruise boat Spirit of Coffs Harbour.
She will be running the cruise booking centre on the marina for Spirit of Coffs Harbour owner Peter Bruce as well as organising advertising and promotions for group cruises, whale watching tours and Coffs Harbour's marine attractions.
She is keen to promote more lunch and dinner cruises, as well as the use of the boat for convention functions.
"I'll also be getting out and networking, which is something I appreciate and enjoy doing," Ms Faynes said.
She is already busy organising her first promotion with underwater photographer Dean Cropp, who has followed in the footsteps of his father, well known underwater photographer Ben Cropp, who now operates a maritime museum at Port Douglas.
Mr Cropp Jnr is arriving in Coffs Harbour on August 27 for a filming session.
Ms Faynes said she would be adding to the knowledge of cetaceans (the family that includes whales and dolphins) she had gained at the Pet Porpoise Pool, knowledge which would also come in very handy in her new role.
Working with renowned marine expert Hec Goodall, 'an absolute pleasure and treasure', working with seal and dolphin trainers, 'lovely people', the birth of baby dolphins and meeting 199cm tall Ryan Fitzgerald from Big Brother had been among highlights of her years at the Pet Porpoise Pool, Ms Faynes said.
