Police man-hunt under way after resort rape

POLICE are hunting a man who broke into a resort room and sexually assaulted an English tourist.

Police said the woman, 64, was holidaying at the un-named Coffs Harbour resort, north of Coffs Harbour, with her daughter and son-in-law on Tuesday.

After dinner, they retired to their respective rooms, police said.

At 3.30am on Wednesday, the woman awoke to find a man in her room.

"It's believed the man sexually assaulted her before leaving," a police spokesman said.

The woman received medical attention, police said. The man is described as obese, and he was last seen wearing a yellow or brown shirt, and long shorts.

"We are dependent on information from the public," the police spokesman said.

If you know anything about the incident, or the identity of this man, you are urged to contact Coffs Harbour detectives on 6652 0299, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
