Police launch search after kids approached

COFFS Harbour parents have been warned to be alert after a man tried to grab two children over the weekend.

The girls, aged two and five, were playing in the front yard of a Beryl Street home about 8.15am on Saturday when a man approached the fence line.

The children have told police the man picked up the two girls, before the alarm was raised by an elder sibling.

The man was last seen running east along Beryl Street.

The girls were uninjured in the incident, which was reported to police late that afternoon.

Officers carried out a canvass of the area and the children have since been interviewed by police.

Detectives are appealing for help to identify a man who they believe may be able to assist with inquiries into the incident.

He is described to police as being of white/European appearance, about 50 years old, with a slim build, short blond hair, a full blond beard and with sores on his arms and hands.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a green long-sleeved top, brown shorts and green joggers and was in possession of a black backpack.

Anyone who knows the identity of the man or has information about the incident is urged to contact Coffs Harbour detectives on 6652 0205 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
