Police hunt Opal Centre bandits

OPALS, rings, pendants, necklaces and earrings . . . that's the loot a pair of bandits fled with after holding up Coffs Harbour's Opal Centre yesterday. Detectives said the pair, wearing balaclavas and white zip-up hooded jackets, walked into the store north of the city at 9.15am. They threatened the shop attendant before filling up two black backpacks with the large amount of jewellery and headed north on the Pacific Highway. They were last seen near the underpass to the Pacific Bay Resort. Police were yesterday not disclosing the value of the jewellery. If you saw the pair, contact Coffs Harbour detectives on 6652 0299. Investigators say the heist is not linked to Wednesday's hold-up at the Midway Store in Harbour Drive.
