Please don?t kill my Rocky

By CRAIG McTEAR

JORDAN Lambert has nightmares that someone's killed Rocky.

Why anyone would want to hurt his dog is something the 10-year-old is now grappling with after someone anonymously sent a threatening letter to his family in Coffs Harbour's Merino Drive.

The letter warned something could happen to the two-year-old bitzer, such as the placement of a glass bait, if they didn't 'shut the dog up'.

Jordan's mum, Megan, said she was sickened and 'absolutely disgusted' after reading the letter.

"It made me feel sick, and my husband, Paul, went through the roof," she said.

"We were just so cranky that someone could write a letter like that.

"The whole experience has been deeply disturbing and makes us question the type of person who would write such a repulsive and abhorrent letter."

The Lamberts have no idea who wrote the letter and wasted no time reporting it to police after a doorknock of the area turned up nothing.

"I just wasn't going to take it. I don't think it's appropriate," Megan said.

"They're probably not aware they've broken the law. The police said it was a criminal offence."

Understandably, the family is now more vigilant when Rocky barks.

"We go out and see what he's barking at and quieten him down. We try to minimise the barking," Megan said.

"Most people have dogs as a watchdog. Rocky barks when people come near the property.

"Our dog does not bark incessantly.

"If he barked all day and all night, I could understand someone being upset.

"I work from home and he's not barking all day, and at night time he sleeps inside.

"Mainly he's a house dog, but when I'm working, he's an outside dog.

"We went out one day and were told Rocky was in the backyard barking at kids who were in the creek nearby. They were also throwing rocks at him which made him bark more.

"The letter was posted the next day, so we think it's related."

For the Lamberts, Rocky is another member of the family.

"He's just a playful puppy. He'd be another person if he didn't have a fur coat," Megan said.

"He's the most spoiled dog there is."
