COFFS Coast youth are now having their voices more clearly heard, thanks to a timely telecommunications upgrade.

Gone are the worries about line dropouts and telephone crackle for CHY FM radio announcers, as they finally bid farewell to their antiquated telephone system.

"We had a system that was about 25 years old and the quality was very poor ? it was about to collapse. It was basically held together by Bandaids," breakfast announcer Wayne Taylor said.

The funds for the new telephone system were donated by ETC, in their recognition of the importance of the service provided by the radio station to the community.

The new system offers new possibilities for CHY announcers, who can now interview over the air and even put two callers to air at the same time.

"It's got more features than the old dinosaur we had. Now we can do more and sound better," Mr Taylor said.
