Pam?s Bonville golf champion

A MEMBER of Bonville since the club first opened, Pam Rooney has finally cracked it for her first club championship after years of trying. And her secret to success was not knowing her status on the scoreboard. "Going into the final round I didn't know what the scores were which was probably the best thing," the new champ explained. "In the final round I played and hit the ball OK but I had two bad holes on the front nine. "I played well on the back though." Even through the final round, Rooney remained unaware of the scores. "I think it helped me to concentrate when I was playing," she explained. "I found out I was the winner when they congratulated me on the 18th green. "I was surprised when that happened, I thought I'd lost by a shot." Rooney, who's whole family plays golf, is still coming to terms with her victory. "It's pretty important to win as this is my home club," the 15 hanicapper said. "It's good to know that I can do it as I've never really been in contention before. "I think that made me a bit more determined, it must have been my year." n Division 1 scores (Handicap: 0-20). Final Round scores are in brackets. Pam Rooney 274 (93), Janette Curran 278 (92), Bev Smith 280 (91), Jennifer West 287 (98). n Division 2 scores (Handicap: 21+). Floris Balding 309 (105), Lynda Butler 311 (101), Kay Sinderberry 319 (101), Chris Powley 331 (106).
