P-plater and mates survive roll-over

A P-PLATER and his three passengers have survived a nasty smash on Orara Way near Coramba.

The man was driving his Ford Falcon sedan south at 8.45am when he lost control in wet conditions on a left-hand bend, about 1km north of the Eastern Dorrigo Way intersection.

His car drifted to the wrong side of the road and struck a utility which was parked on the roadside near a worksite. No-one was in the utility at the time.

The sedan flipped and hit an embankment.

Two passengers in the rear got out of their wreck, and bystanders and rescuers helped another to safety.

The driver was trapped for half an hour before emergency crews could free him.

All occupants of the car were taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus. Two were later discharged, while two remained in hospital in stable conditions late yesterday.

It is understood the driver was due to undergo surgery yesterday afternoon.

Police were assisted at the scene by ambulance officers, the State Emergency Service, the Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire Brigades.

Investigators are continuing their inquiries into the cause of the smash.
