Onya, mate, thanks
THE deep wreck exploration dive Gordon King was to run in the waters off Sydney was planned in infinite detail.
Nothing was left to chance ? or so he thought.
The only thing he didn't plan on was for his car to break down the morning he was supposed to leave for Sydney from his Lower Bucca home.
"As I went to leave, numerous dash lights came on and steering was lost," Mr King said.
That was at 8am. A few minutes of swearing ensued before he called Speedy Lube at 8.05am to explain his situation.
What happened next is what Mr King found really unbelievable, restoring his faith in the service available on the Coffs Coast.
"At 8.35am Warren Smith from Speedy Lube came to my house, did a temporary repair, got my four wheel drive to the workshop, jumped the line of all other cars booked in, and with his supervisor, Phil Miller, got my car fixed and back on the road by 11am," he said.
"They all were fantastic. I really want to thank Doug McDonald (owner), Warren and Phil for their excellent service. It was brilliant."
Doug and the team at Speedy Lube are the first winners of the Advocate's ONYA Award. We'll be presenting the ONYA whenever we hear about locals going beyond the call of duty or just helping out people in need. While there are no prizemoney or trophies involved, there will be public recognition of a job well done. To nominate someone for an ONYA, email details to ann-marie.may@coffscoast e.com.au or phone 6650 2954.
