On track for nationals

FOUR local members of the Coffs Harbour Motorcycle club have had some great results over the past few weeks, travelling up and down the East Coast attending State titles and Open meetings.

Craig Mallett, Coby Wooderson and Josh Hines travelled to Kempsey to compete in the NSW Dirt Track titles.

Some of the State's best dirt track riders competed at this event, as well as riders travelling from Queensland to compete.

Coby contested the 250/4 Stroke class, and up against some tough competition, rode strongly to take out the State title.

Craig and Josh both rode in the 125cc event with Craig finishing in a great second place, and Josh a commendable fourth position.

The following week Craig and Josh travelled to Maryborough to ride in the Queensland Dirt Track Titles.

More than 100 riders competed for trophies and prizemoney at this event.

Craig and Josh were both riding in the 125cc event, and after having five wins from as many races, Craig had secured the Queensland title.

Josh had some early gearing trouble, and after a lot of work on his bike in the pit area, rode to a great third place in this event.

Two weeks later Craig and Josh were off again this time to Brisbane to compete in the North Brisbane Cup.

Again racing for prizemoney and trophies, this event attracted the top dirt track riders from up and down the east coast, and also from as far west as Tamworth.

Top prizemoney on the day was $3000 for the open pairs event. Craig and Josh both rode in the 125cc event with Craig riding to a great third place, and Josh finishing in fifth position.

Another club rider who is getting some great results is Clint Rigonni. Clint, who usually rides dirt track, has been road racing buckets for the first time this year with some outstanding results.

Clint latest race was at Raleigh on the weekend and he won the event on the day, and is now leading the amateur class.

Craig is sponsored by the Local Autoshop in Marcia St and Clint by Midcoast Jet Skis and Motorcycles, and both boys appreciate the ongoing support they receive.

Craig, Josh and Coby's next meeting will be the prestigious Akubra Classic held at Kempsey next month, and then the national titles at Canberra.
