Now this was too close for comfort

Oh, dear . . . the three occupants of this southbound Ford Laser should buy a lottery ticket after their lucky escape on the Pacific Highway at Emerald Beach yesterday afternoon. The 53-year-old driver was treated for back injuries after he overtook a brown Hyundai Coupe, drifted across unbroken lines and hit an oncoming Pantech truck. The Laser skidded out of control into the front of the Hyundai and landed in the middle of the road. No-one else was injured. Fire crews mopped up 200 litres of diesel which spilled from the truck's ruptured fuel tank into scrub. Motorists were delayed for 30 minutes during the emergency operation. Police inquiries continue.
