No excuses for drinkers

Two festive season punters get in early to use the Night Rider bus which comes into effect from this Friday.

YOU hear it every year ? Don't Drink and Drive ? and now there is no excuse.

Starting this Friday the Night Rider bus will be operating again, right in time for the festive season celebrations in the lead-up to Christmas.

Police will increase random and targeted breath testing throughout its Operation Drink Drive and Safe Arrival campaigns so be forewarned that it doesn't pay to drink and drive.

Coffs Harbour City Council road safety officer Anne Shearer said it was good sense to use public transport and avoid driving.

"The Night Rider Bus project is now entering its third year of operation and has been well supported by the community, including Coffs Harbour Liquor Accord and the media. Surveys have found unanimous support for the service," Ms Shearer said.

The Night Rider Bus service will operate Fridays until December 30 between 8pm and 4am around the city and also to Sawtell and Toormina.

The service will also operate from 8pm until midnight on Christmas Eve and between 8pm and 4am on New Year's Eve. Regular bus fares apply.
