No cigar at Teahupoo
TWO local surfers on the lucrative Foster's ASP World Tour were in great form at Teahupoo but both eventually suffered heart-breaking losses in the third round of the Billabong Pro.
Scotts Head's Trent Munro surfed great yesterday morning in Tahiti, winning his round-two heat by defeating Brazilian Raoni Monterio but then narrowly going down to Hawaiian Andy Irons in round three.
Munro was leading the three time world champion throughout his round three heat before Irons found a good final tube ride to steal the heat from Munro.
Emerald Beach goofy footer Shaun Cansdell suffered a similar fate after winning his round two heat but then narrowly going down to fellow Australia Joel Parkinson in round three.
Cansdell was easily leading Parkinson on the dangerous left-hand breaking wave in the third round before the shallow reef pass approximately one kilometre out to sea allowed Parkinson a perfect opportunity late in the heat and he found an incredible 9.83 tube ride to steal the heat from Cansdell in fine style.
The Billabong Pro is the third event on the Fosters Men's ASP World Tour and features the top 45 surfers in the world plus three extra wildcard entries.
