Nine teams in 2006

ASHORTAGE of quality players has forced Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo Magpies to withdraw from the Carlton Mid Group 2 Rugby League competition.

Reeling from their heavy trial loss to Orara Valley on Sunday, Bellingen players were left with no choice but to withdraw from the senior grades.

The withdrawal of Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo means the first and reserve grade competitions in Group 2 wlll now be reduced to nine teams forcing a bye for clubs drawing the Magpies in the 2006 fixtures.

Group 2 secretary Peter O'Grady said although Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo had withdrawn from the senior grades, they were still hopeful of fielding an under 18 side in the 2006 competition. "A final decision on the under-18 side was to be made at their training session last night," O'Grady said.

"The lack of numbers in the senior grades is the reason Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo have gone into recess for the 2006 season.

The club has given notice that they intend to re-enter the 2007 competition and will work toward that goal immediately.
