Night of trivia and generosity

NOT only did Coffs Harbour businesses demonstrate their intelligence at last Friday's Smith Family Learning For Life trivia fundraiser, they also showed their great generosity.

About 350 people turned out for the fun occasion at the Coffs Ex-Services Club ? laughing one minute and looking puzzled the next ? and raised more than $23,000.

Some of the companies and individuals made donations of $1000 or $400 to become a Champion or Guardian of the program that helps keep needy children at school through a targeted program of assistance.

The grand total included $10,000 from the AMP Foundation.

One of the highlights of the evening was when a young lady named Shannon told her story of how Learning for Life has helped her towards a career in hospitality.

Logie-winning actor John Howard was the quiz master and kept the audience entertained throughout.

The Coffs Coast Advocate narrowly won the trivia contest and the right to call itself Coffs Har- bour's smartest business.
