Mountain road cut

By UTE SCHULENBERG

THE Dorrigo Mountain Road remained closed to all but escorted vehicles yesterday.

Bellingen Shire council workers were kept busy clearing mudslides, rocks and trees, which littered the road following the intense weather of Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The council's director of engineering, Ken Wilson, said engineers from the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) would be visiting the area today to assess the damage and start planning the necessary repairs.

"We anticipate the road will reopen about lunchtime today, depending on what the RTA says," Mr Wilson said.

"There are a couple of significant scours, which will require repairs."

He said the council was still assessing the damage to other roads in the shire.
