Moore wins Seaside Open title

INCLEMENT weather that made play on Saturday impossible, shortened matches to catch up on time lost and finals played in difficult and windy conditions.

That was a recipe for disaster for the 2006 Sawtell RSL Seaside Open but once again strong management ensured the tournament was another success.

The ladies open final got off to a late start due to a combination of catch up games and a semi-final that lasted nearly two and a half hours.

To advance to the final, Andrea Nenad from Redhead finally overcame Toukley's Rebecca Stanford 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

In the final, Nenad was drawn to meet reigning champion Lucia Gonzales who cruised through her semi-final against Rosie McWilliams 6-2, 6-1.

Lismore's Brendon Moore was crowned the men's champion for 2006 after a straight sets victory over Jimmy Rigg from Manly.

The vocal Rigg put up a strong fight throughout the final but eventually fell victim 7-6, 6-4 to Moore's consistent ground strokes under pressure.

See Wednesday's Coffs Coast Advocate for reports on both the singles champions.
