Monaro saved by the church

Get me to the church on time . . . an elderly Repton man said his prayers yesterday morning as his beloved Monaro headed straight for the entrance of St Augustine's Catholic Church in Coffs Harbour. The 85-year-old had parked the car nearby just before 9.15am Mass, but the vehicle rolled down a slope after he took it out of gear. He went for the handbrake, but he couldn't stop the car from hitting a pillar only 10 metres from the church doors. Neither the man nor his female passenger were injured, but the vehicle had minor damage. The pillar, however, has seen better days.
