MNC Rugby to kick off

TRAINING for the Mid North Coast Axeman opens and under-20s representative teams will commence tomorrow throughout the Zone.

Mid North Coast Rugby has developed a pre-season program aimed at improving the zone's performance in the NSW Country Rugby Union Championships and the Northern Provincial Championships.

Players will need to register their interest in the representative programs by attending the zone training sessions.

To give all players a chance for selection the zone has been divided in to three provinces, Southern (Manning, Old Bar, Foster), Central (Port Macquarie, Hastings Valley, South West Rocks, Kempsey), and Northern (Nambucca Heads, Dorrigo, Coffs Harbour).

The first training session for Northern Province will be held at Coffs Harbour Rugby Club with players from Coffs, Dorrigo and Nambucca Heads invited to attend.

Training will also be held in both Dorrigo and Nambucca prior to the selection gala days and all players are encouraged to participate.

Bruce Worboys, Des Hoy and Craig Cusack, and the local club coaches will coordinate training at these venues.

Central Province will train at Port Macquarie and Kempsey and Southern Province training will be held in Taree, Old Bar and Forster.

The full representative program is:

- January 13 to 31: Provincial training as arranged by the coordinators in each Province.

- February 5: Gala day selection trials Northern v Southern, Central v Northern, Southern v Central at Taree.

- February 12: Gala day selection trials: Southern v Central, Southern v Northern, Central v Northern at Kempsey.

- February 19: Crescent Heads 7's, all players to play in club sides.

- March 19: NPC MNC Axeman v Central North - Narrabri.

Zone officials are confident that the team can make the NPC Finals, to be played as a curtain raiser to the NSW Waratahs, in both opens and under-20s if all zone players are available for the representative teams.
