Magic will do the trick

By GREG WHITE

COFFS Harbour trainer Brett Dodson aims to win today's historic Ramornie Handicap in Grafton with the veteran of the field.

Rising nine-year-old Words of Magic will have his second start for the stable since finishing a first-up fifth in the Gosford Pacesetter Stakes on a heavy track at Randwick on June 24.

"The horse was scratched from the Prelude and I would like to have given him another run before this but I reckon the old bloke will still go close," the trainer said confidently.

"He's already won at Grafton over the 1200 and at his other start was beaten two lengths in the big race last year.

"Brad Stewart will have him on the pace so it's up to the others to try to run him down."

The heavyweight Brisbane-based rider picked up the ride when Kathy O'Hara and Glen Colless were both suspended and Zac Purton elected to fulfil city commitments.

"Brad sits on well and has ridden plenty of winners for me and can ride close to the weight of 56.5kg, Dodson said..

"Starlactic is going to be hard to beat and you can't leave out the horses here just for this race that we don't know much about."

Dodson will head Words of Magic to Brisbane for a $100,000 quality sprint race after today's start.
