Macksville man charged over fatal hit-and-run

A MACKSVILLE man, 23, will face court on November 10 in relation to Sunday's fatal hit-and-run in Bowraville.

Between midnight and 3.30am, a Macksville man, 30, was hit by a vehicle in Cook Street.

Police allege the car did not stop after the collision. The man, whose name has still not been released, died at the scene.

Crash investigators from Port Macquarie examined physical evidence to identify the vehicle involved.

"It is believed the victim may have been lying on the road ahead of the collision," a police spokesman said.

At 9.10am on Sunday, a man attended Macksville Police Station to speak with police.

He was arrested and charged with negligent driving causing death, and failing to render assistance.

He was granted conditional bail ahead of his court appearance in Macksville.
