Local food producers show off their best

TOM Hackett, from Kiwi Down Under in Bonville, knows how to grow things.

But he also knows that growing your own good produce is not enough ? you also have to know how to market it.

That's why he was keen to be involved in the NSW Government's Regional Food Tour which rolled into Coffs Harbour yesterday.

Mr Hackett was there to represent Mid North Coast Organics Inc (MNCOI), a group of growers in the region who work together to market their products.

"People can really benefit from marketing together," Mr Hackett said.

"We're hoping to set ourselves up to be able to supply a chain with our products in the future."

Products presented as part of the Regional Food Tour include coffee, wine, boutique beer, farmed rabbits, organically-grown produce, jams, spices, cheese, macadamia nuts, carob, confectionery, teas, honey, tropical fruits, sauces and bush tucker.

Giving the produce the once over were 18 Sydney-based buyers, providores, exporters and chefs who were also keen to meet the local growers in person.
