Let?s fly the flag

JACINTA Ray will be wearing an apron sporting the Aussie flag on Australia Day.

She would like to fly the flag, but she has none left ? and she sells them.

The owner of Woopi Doo in Woolgoolga said yesterday she had been amazed by the stream of customers coming into her shop wanting to buy Australiana and fly the flag on Australia Day.

She said the organisers of The Big Day Out, who have forbidden people attending Thursday's event to display the Australian flag, had provoked a huge reaction and her customers were annoyed and vocal.

"We're just a happy little shop in a country town and we don't sit around and have political conversations, but people have been coming in and making a beeline for the Australiana stuff and talking about it," she said.

"They are saying things like 'we're sick of being told we can't do things ? this is our country'.

"The Big Day Out seems to have been the straw that broke the camel's back, and it's not just Woopi people, it's visitors, too."
