Just cruisin? on a Summer Breeze

LOCAL mare Summer Breeze put a beaming smile on the face of trainer Jessica Lang when she cruised away with the Sinclair and Antico Maiden Plate at yesterday's Coffs Harbour races.

Lang admitted to sampling the double-figure odds available and had no reason for heart flutters when jockey Raymond Spokes took off in the straight to win by seven lengths.

"She's had a lot of problems and it's been a hell of a time getting her here," the trainer said.

"A couple of times she's stressed in her races and it's good to see her put in.

"On the track she's competitive with open class horses so I knew when conditions suited she'd be hard to beat."

Pre-race Lang instructed Spokes to go forward.

"I told Raymond to lead if there wasn't much pace on as long as she was comfortable.

"He got her to travel and she just stayed there."

The win completed an early double for the former leading apprentice who's only recently returned from a six month break on the injured list.

"The mare felt good in herself so I just let her stroll," the jockey said.

"No worries at all as you can see from how she won."
