Jetty to have piles

IF MOTHER Nature is kind, the Coffs Harbour jetty will have its new landing by April 12.

The former landing was destroyed during bad storms last October and the piles supporting it split.

From Monday, council will begin placing new piles and other support structures before lowering a new landing into position.

"Unfortunately this coincides with the school holidays and we would have liked to have had it in place before then," the council's director of city services, Steve Sawtell, said.

"We might need to close off access to this part of the jetty for safety reasons."

The project will cost $75,000.
