Jarran rewrites the record book

THE Diabetes Australia Coffs Open was held in great weather over the weekend with some top results being attained by Westside juniors.

Jarran Pfefferkorn, 13, broke the record books by becoming the youngest player to win the Open men's doubles when he combined with his tennis coach Allan Pade to take the final against Port's Jake Partridge and Coffs Harbour's Andrew Wilson 9-5.

Jarran also cleaned up in the 14 boys' singles when he defeated Grafton's Harry Weatherstone in the final.

Westside juniors and members results are as follows:

Siena De Salis: runner-up 12 girls' singles vs Bianca Moseley 9-7; Mitch Dunn: semi's in both the 12 boys' singles and 14 boys' doubles (partner Nathan Moran); Nathan Moran: qtr's 14 boys' singles and semi's 14 boys' doubles (partner Mitch Dunn); Dylan Moran: runner-up 14 boys' doubles (partner Jacob Phillips); Jacob Phillips: runner-up 14 boys' doubles (partner Dylan Moran); Jarran Pfefferkorn: winner 14 boys' singles & open men's doubles (partner Allan Pade); Ben Vandenberg: semi's open men's singles; Deb Polack: winner open ladies doubles (partnered 13-year-old daughter Jessica Polack); Allan Pade: winner open men's singles against Maclean's Daniel Ensby 9-1 and winner open men's doubles (partner Jarran Pfefferkorn).

Other Westside juniors to compete were Darren Wright (16 Boys) & Jeff Kong (12 Boys) & Mitch Ide (12 Boys).

n PASSING SHOTS: Coaching clinics over the school holidays will be held at the Westside Tennis Club and also the Orara Valley Tennis Centre at Karangi.

Dates/times are as follows: Westside ? Tuesday October 3 to Friday October 6 with cost being $70 for the week. Also Monday October 9 to Friday October 13 with cost being $80 for the week.

Half-days are available for both weeks as well as the normal $30 discount for participating for the two weeks at all day clinics.

Free tennis racquet and 1 hour tennis lesson will also be drawn as a lucky door prize.

Parents are to note that Westside Tennis Club has a fully enclosed child proof fenced area and responsible mature tennis coaches who will be in attendance at all times.

Orara Valley/Karangi: Tuesday October 3 to Friday October 6, two-hour clinics at $40 for the week or $12 per day. Please phone Allan Pade on above numbers.

n McDonald's Friday Night Comp: All school age players welcome as long as you can get your serve in to start a rally ? 4pm to 7.30pm. Cost is $7 per player with McDonalds Sports Encouragement Awards handed out each week.
