Ian gets ?life

COFFS Harbour president Ian Trengove had no idea he was being named a life member at the Comets presentation dinner but now admits he should have known 'something was up'.

"I didn't read the signs properly," he said. "We discussed life memberships at a committee meeting and decided to go no further.

"Then I heard my wife talking about me on the phone but you know how it is, you don't go there."

As the honour was about to be made, Trengrove actually asked the master of ceremonies to sit down when he started praising his work as club boss.

"That's when they announced my name and you could have knocked me down with a feather," he said.

"Nobody works in football clubs for rewards like this or at least, I don't.

"It's very humbling if it happens."

Trengove and wife Mandy made it a double celebration on the night when named joint-winners of the 'Clubperson of the Year' by Leagues Club chairman, Greg Spence.
