Hockey on the ice

THE Coffs Harbour ice hockey under-18s and Under-15s representative teams recently returned from a friendly tournament at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium, Newcastle.

It was the first away tournament for many of the players and the first outing under the Combined Insurance Coffs Falcons jersey.

The two Coffs teams each played three games but were somewhat under strength due to illness.

In keeping with the good sportsmanship between the two clubs, Newcastle loaned some of their best players to even the competition.

Coffs coach, Craig Barlow, said he was proud of the way his players had trained hard to prepare for this tournament and looked forward to the return match.

Newcastle will hold the Lazo Trophy (named after the late Les Lazurus) for six months until they meet up with the Falcons in Coffs Harbour early next year.
