Highway horror as 17-year-old run down

A 17-YEAR-OLD Coffs Harbour pedestrian died on Saturday afternoon after he was hit by a motorcycle at the intersection of Bray Street and the Pacific Highweay.

The teenager was hit by a Suzuki VL800 motorcycle being ridden south along the Pacific Highway about 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

The boy was thrown several metres before landing on the roadway.

He was treated by ambulance officers at the scene before being taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The motorcycle rider, a 27-year-old Coffs Harbour man, suffered shoulder injuries in the accident.

He was also treated at the hospital and was allowed to leave.

Coffs Harbour Police have interviewed a number of people who saw the accident and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

It is understood the teenager who died was to be one of the faces of a television advertising campaign for a well-known local fashion store. The campaign was due to begin this weekend but was withdrawn after the accident.

The youth's name has not yet been released.
