Highway closure causes chaos as woman is injured

THERE was chaos on the Pacific Highway yesterday afternoon after a major collision closed the road in both direction for many hours.

The accident, near Halfway Creek forced the closure of the highway north of Moonee and traffic was diverted via Bucca Road after a south bound four-wheel drive collided with a north bound semi-trailer.

The incident happened early afternoon just before 2.45pm.

A female occupant in her 50s from the 4WD vehicle was taken to Grafton Base Hospital.

As of 5pm yesterday she was in a serious but stable condition.

The male driver from the semi-trailer was treated for shock.

It is unknown how many passengers were onboard the 4WD.

The Coffs Harbour Fire Brigade reported sending a Hazmat emergency vehicle to the incident, at 2.55pm.

Anyone with any information on the incident should contact the Grafton Police, or the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit.
