Help a local snare a Logie

Former Toormina High student and star of television hit show McLeod's Daughters, Simmone Jade Mackinnon, has been nominated for the 2007 TV Week Gold Logie award.

And her sister, local dance teacher Kym Mackinnon, is urging the Coffs Coast to get behind their home-grown talent and get their votes in.

"You never know, this might not happen again," she said.

"The whole family (parents Anette and Ian Mackinnon of Toormina, brother Robbie Mackinnon and sister Kym) is proud of her."

Simmone was nominated for the Best Newcomer Logie in 2004 but missed out.

The 34-year-old actress almost missed out on the nomination breakfast last week, too!

"She was running late and the Logies people were calling to ask if she was still coming . . . as soon as she got there she found out (that she was nominated for Gold)."

Simmone began her career as a professional dancer before deciding to pursue acting.

She did dozens of commercials; televisions shows including Water Rats, All Saints and Baywatch; and films including Dating The Enemy before getting a lead role on popular show, McLeod's Daughters.

"She is a really down-to-earth kind of person, she doesn't know I'm doing this . . . but a lot of people don't know a Coffs Harbour girl is up for a Gold Logie."
