Go slow or lose

MOTORISTS caught exceeding the speed limit by as little as 5km/h will lose half their licence points this ANZAC Day long weekend.

NRMA Motoring and Services policy manager Hilary Wise said motorists should remember that the State Government had recently increased the number of demerit points for people exceeding the speed limit between 0? 15km/h from two to three.

"This long weekend motorists fined for travelling at 5km/h over the limit will be fined six points ? the same as a motorist exceeding the limit by 29km/h," Ms Wise said.

"This means you could lose your licence after only two minor speeding offences."

Police operation 'Go Slow' began midnight last night and will finish midnight Monday.
