Food by the tonne for needy families

'TIS the season to be jolly and for the crew at FoodCare, they aim to make it that way for everyone.

FoodCare is a community project run by Harbour Church in Stadium Drive which opened its doors in April of this year with a vision of helping families in need.

Since opening, the charity has delivered in excess of 16 tonnes of food to more than 100 needy families every week.

With Christmas right around the corner and its knowledge of families in need, FoodCare took their services one step further to provide families with Christmas food they would otherwise be unable to afford.

More than 150 Christmas hampers will be distributed to needy families in the coming week with 100 already allocated, and 40 more waiting for needy families.

"FoodCare has made a huge difference to families, but with Christmas approaching, we realised the pressures increase. You can't enjoy Christmas when your neighbour is in need, so we decided to go that extra mile," director of FoodCare, Stefan Sorenson, said.
