Finals in Optus Cup

FOR the fifth year in a row, the Bonville International Golf Resort is set to host the final of one of Australia's premier corporate golf tournaments.

The Optus Corporate Cup is the brain child of former Australian Open Champion, Jack Newton.

After a hard fought series of preliminary rounds, five state championship teams and seven sponsored teams will arrive from all over Australia in the hope of taking out the national final.

The event contributes to the development of junior golf as well as Diabetes Australia.

The Optus Corporate Cup has so far raised in excess of $1 million towards both charities.

Last year's event raised $220,000 for junior golf and a further $60,000 was donated to Diabetes Australia.

Host Jack Newton lost his father to diabetes and is now a diabetic himself.

Newton said there is a great synergy in raising funds for the development of youth golf programs which propagates a healthy, disciplined outdoor lifestyle-while the ultimate goal by Diabetes Australia is to find a cure for a disease which has now reached epidemic proportions world wide.

The final begins tomorrow with a practice round for all teams beginning at midday.

Competition will be played over Saturday and Sunday.
