Final fling for soccer teams



EIGHT gruelling days of soccer reach the climax today as teams battle for national girls youth soccer titles at the International Stadium. Play-offs for positions three-ten were held yesterday while the finals of the under-15 and under-17 divisions will be played today. In the under-17s Queensland will start favourites to win the final after Leah Curtis, Laura Harris and Georgia Pelling scored in the 3-1 win over South Australia. Their opponents will be NSW who defeated Queensland Country 2-0 in their semi-final with goals to Britt Simmons and Jessica Seaman. The under-17 final kicks off at 10am. The under-15s final between Queensland and Western Australia will kick off at 9am today. After the scores were locked 0-all after extra-time, Queensland eliminated NSW 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out. Western Australia eliminated Northern NSW with a 2-0 win scoring a goal in each half through Danielle Calautti and Ella Mastrantonio.
